Anomaly

The year was 1997, and Steve & Linda Goldfarb were happily commuting to San Francisco every day to work at Steve's law firm. As beautiful as the scenery was crossing the Bay Bridge, when the 20-minute commute from their home in Berkeley became a 2-hour commute in each direction, they began exploring other options – enter the Napa Valley. A home with six rows of Cabernet vines presented itself to them... they couldn't resist. They traded in their yellow legal pads for crush pads and call themselves, "Accidental Vintners." Twenty-seven years later, they love their 20-yard commute to the winery, the only traffic being their devoted rescue dog, Ollie; and they have happily not looked back.

Wines

Our three estate vineyard blocks are located directly over the previous path of Sulphur Creek coming down out of the Mayacamas Range to the west. The soil is "very gravelly cobbly sandy loam" that sits on an alluvial creek bed consisting of "water rolled gravel + cobbles". In other words, prime Cabernet dirt, which has been producing grapes for some of the best wines Napa has to offer for close to 100 years. Our vineyard blocks are farmed organically and are certified by the CCOF.

Winemaker Mark Porembski joined Anomaly in 2002 as Assistant Winemaker, and in 2005, Mark took over the reins as the Winemaker for Anomaly Vineyards. Prior to coming to Anomaly, Mark was the Assistant Winemaker to Les Behrens and Lisa Drinkward at Behrens & Hitchcock/Erna Schein Winery on Spring Mountain in St. Helena. Mark, and his wife, Jennifer Williams, have their own wine label, Zeitgeist Cellars.
